Editorial Standards

Who writes this, how it gets checked, what happens when we get something wrong, and where the pictures come from.

How we research and fact-check

Neither of us is a veterinarian, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. Growing up around a lot of dogs teaches you plenty, and none of it is a medical qualification. So every article gets checked against primary sources — organizations like the AKC, ASPCA, AVMA, and Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine — and cited in the article itself when the claim matters.

We write everything between us and we both read everything before it goes live, which is the whole review process — there is no one else. Where the research is thin, or the answer everybody repeats turns out to be wrong, the article says so instead of repeating it anyway. When something is genuinely urgent, we point you at your vet or an emergency line rather than guessing.

OUR RULE OF THUMB

If it's a "will this hurt my dog" question, we cite a source. If it's a "what should I name my dog" question, we just have opinions — clearly labeled as opinions.

A note on the photos

Worth saying plainly, because most sites don't: the images here are a mix. Some are ours — our own dogs, our own house, our own chewed furniture. Some are licensed stock photos. Some are generated with AI.

We'd rather tell you that than let you assume every dog on this site is one we've met. None of it is doing the work of evidence either way: if a claim matters, it's backed by a source cited in the text, not by a picture sitting next to it.

Corrections

If an article has a mistake, is out of date, or you just think we got something wrong, tell us through Contact & Corrections. We'll take a real look, and fix it if we should. Corrections get made on the article itself rather than quietly disappearing.

Who writes here

Two people, and nobody else. Austin writes the food-safety and behaviour pieces and builds the printables; Illiana writes the daily-life and naming pieces. There is no freelancer pool and no anonymous editorial team — if something here is wrong, it is one of us who got it wrong.
