Cool People Have Dogs ("we," "us," "this site") respects your privacy. This page explains what information we collect, why, and what choices you have. It applies to coolpeoplehavedogs.com and covers everyone who visits, whatever state or country you're visiting from.
Information we collect
Information you give us directly. If you sign up for our newsletter or request a free download (like a printable), we collect your email address and use it to send you what you asked for.
Information collected automatically. Our host, Netlify, logs standard technical data when you load a page — browser type, device, approximate location and the pages you viewed — to serve the site and keep it secure. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It is cookieless and does not fingerprint you or follow you to other sites, which is why you will not find an analytics cookie in the list below.
Cookies. Cookies are small text files a site stores in your browser. We use them (and allow certain partners to use them) for a few purposes:
- Basic site functionality (remembering that you closed this notice, for example)
- Remembering that you have already subscribed, so the signup box stops asking
- Affiliate tracking — when you click a link to a retailer like Amazon, a cookie tells that retailer the referral came from us, which is how we earn a commission if you buy something
- Embedded content like the Pinterest "Save" button, which Pinterest may use to recognize you if you're logged into Pinterest elsewhere
We don't currently run display advertising, but if that changes, this policy will be updated to name those ad partners specifically. By continuing to use this site, you're agreeing to our use of cookies as described here. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings if you'd rather not allow them — doing so may affect how some parts of the site work, but the articles themselves will still load fine.
How we use your information
We use the information above to send the newsletter or download you signed up for, understand what content is worth making more of, keep the site secure, and — through affiliate cookies — get credit for referrals when you choose to buy something we've linked to. We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
Third parties we work with
These are the services that actually receive data today, and what each one gets:
- Brevo — our email provider. If you sign up for a printable or the newsletter, your email address is stored with them and they send the mail. They are based in the EU.
- Netlify — hosting. Receives the technical request data described above, and anything you type into the contact form.
- Cloudflare — page-view analytics. Cookieless, and not tied to you as an individual.
- Amazon Associates and other affiliate programs — only when you click a product link, and only to attribute the referral.
- Pinterest — through the Save button on articles, which Pinterest may use to recognise you if you are logged in to Pinterest elsewhere.
Each of these has its own privacy policy governing what happens to data once it reaches them. We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not hand your email address to any of the above except Brevo, which needs it to send you what you asked for.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your rights
If you're a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to ask what personal information we hold about you and to request its deletion; since we don't sell personal information, there's no "opt-out of sale" needed. If you're in the EU or UK, the GDPR gives you similar rights to access, correct, port or delete your data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Every email we send also carries a one-click unsubscribe, which removes you from the list immediately without needing to ask us. To exercise any of these rights, email us — see below.
Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we collect, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page as the site grows — for example, if we add analytics or advertising. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the latest version.
